Mindful Faith

(Day 3 – Contemplating Ravi Zacharias’ quotes)

You remember the song by George Michael, right?  Gotta Have Faith.

We all need faith, but the better question is what kind of faith and where does our faith come from?

In Zacharias’ book that I mentioned the other day, The Grand Weaver:  How God Shapes Us Through the Events of Our Lives, Zacharias teaches that a Christ-like faith comes from the mind.

He wrote:

“Faith is a thing of the mind.  If you do not believe that God is in control and has formed you for a purpose, then you will flounder on the high seas of purposelessness, drowning in the currents and drifting further into nothingness.”

The Grand Weaver:  How God Shapes Us Through the Events of Our Lives

We need to confidently believe in our minds that we have a purpose.

If we don’t we will find ourselves struggling to get through life.  We will easily be swayed to go in every which direction except the direction God has set out for us.

When we possess faith of the mind, we don’t only find confidence in our purpose, but we also find confidence in the Creator who gives us our power in believing.

Mark 9:23 states, “Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.’”

That sounds similar to Philippians 4:13 where Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

It means that we can face each situation in life, good or bad, with the confidence that we can honor God if our mind is convinced that we are following God’s path and we stay true to God’s commands.
