What’s Your Foundation

Jun 04, 2020 By: Kyle Timmons Topic: Uncategorized Scripture: Matthew 7:24-27

It’s one of children’s songs I remember the most while a young lad.

It goes like this:

The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
The wise man built his house upon the rock
And the rains came tumbling down

The rains came down and the floods came up
The rains came down and the floods came up
The rains came down and the floods came up
And the house on the rock stood firm

The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
The foolish man built his house upon the sand
And the rains came tumbling down

The rains came down and the floods came up
The rains came down and the floods came up
The rains came down and the floods came up
And the house on the sand went smash

Did you ever sing this song?

It’s based on Matthew’s writing in his gospel.

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Matthew 7:24-27, NIV

What is your Christian foundation built upon?

Is it built upon the teachings of man? Is it based on the feelings and beliefs of your denomination? Is it built upon your own life’s experiences?

Or, is your foundation built solely on the Word of God?

The very base foundation of our Christian life must be built on God’s Word and God’s Word alone. After that, we can strengthen, or weaken it, based on our experiences, the writings of authors, our leaders, etc. but if we ever allow the foundation to be anything other than God’s Word our bodies, which are the temple of God, will be in grave danger.
