Some Gave All

“All Gave Some, Some Gave All.”

It’s a perfect reminder of the sacrifices all veterans have given over the years.

This quote is attributed to Korean War veteran and purple heart recipient, Howard William Osterkamp, who was from Dent, Ohio.

Osterkamp served in the US Army from 1951-1953 in the C Company, 5th Regimental Combat Team.

Howard Osterkamp

Osterkamp was wounded in the leg by shrapnel while his Team was experiencing heavy combat in Korea.

He was taken to the Army doctors who misidentified his injury and they sent him back to the front lines with a broken leg in two places. He remained with his Team for four more months, totalling nine months on the front line in total.

Osterkamp is just one of millions of men and women who have served and will continue to serve with honor.

He recognized that nearly 1.2 million people died during the Korean War and that is when he coined the phrase “All Gave Some, Some Gave All.”

Today, we thank God for those men and women and we pray His hand of protection upon all who are currently serving.
