Advent Day 26 (December 22nd)

You’re Worth Loving

This year St. Peter’s UCC in Grant Park is providing the book A Love Worth Giving to You at Christmas by Max Lucado for our members to distribute to their families, friends, and neighbors as a small gift.

Each book includes an invitation to worship with our church family on Christmas Eve.

Throughout Advent we are reminding everyone that they are worth loving!

Lucado writes, “(Jesus) went from commanding angels to sleeping in straw.  From holding stars to clutching Mary’s finger.  The palm that held the universe took the nail of a soldier.  Why?  Because that’s what love does.”

Each day, during Advent, join us for a journey to see just how much God’s love for you is evidenced in the story of Christmas.

Praying During Advent

Each devotional over the past few weeks has concluded with a short prayer, but how many of us have spent more time praying throughout the day than just a few sentences.

Prayer allows us to enter into God’s presence and invite Him to prepare our hearts to receive the gift of His Son.

One of the most effective ways to draw closer to God in addition to reading His Word is to speak to Him through prayer.

During Advent, and especially during these final days leading to Christmas, there are several things you can be praying for.

Ask God to direct your thoughts and motives to the things in life that truly matter, not trivial things.

Ask God to enlighten your heart, mind, and soul to learn something new each day about His love and grace.

Ask God to help you prioritize the things in your life, to help you arrange your schedule around Him instead of yourself and others.

Ask God to help you pause for a period of time each day and be more aware of His presence.

Ask God to help you strengthen your relationships with your spouse, your family, your friends, your neighbors, and your church.

Ask God for His peace – not just in the world, but in your personal life.

God wants to hear from you because YOU are WORTHY.

Prayer:  Most High God, guide us into a quiet place this season and help us to listen for Your voice.  Reach down from the heavens and move us to where You desire us to be.  Give us courage to be loved by You and to love others.  Amen.
